Meghan Markle bodyguard cuts Fiji engagement short

Updated: Nov 1, 2018

The Scotland Yard bodyguard of Prince Harry’s wife, Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle, was forced to cut her visit to a market in Suva in Fiji short because of very enthusiastic crowds of people.

According to the London Evening Standard, the incident took place on a solo engagement in the capital, with Ms Markle visiting the Suva Municipal Market to meet some of the female vendors involved in Markets for Change, a UN Women’s project promoting female empowerment in marketplaces located in the Pacific.

Royal sources explained that the Duchess was rushed out because of security surrounding much bigger crowds than had previously been anticipated, with Ms Markle led to a waiting car outside.

It’s thought that the police team involved weren’t happy that there were no barriers in place to hold the crowds back.

“The Duchess was only due to drop into the market event which was only meant to be an extension of the reception at the High Commission.

“It was cut slightly short due to the large number of people within the market, which made the event uncomfortably busy,” a royal source was quoted by the news source as saying.
